*To Promote Indian Languages, NEP-2020 Focuses on Translation: Professor Aneja*
*_Rajdhani College Organised National Seminar on National Consciousness and Translation_* September 30th, 2021
English Literary Association (ELA) of Rajdhani College under the aegis of IQAC organized the National Webinar on the topic ‘National Consciousness and Translation’ to mark the special occasion of International Translation Day on 30 September 2021. The National Webinar started with Inaugural Session which was followed by Parallel Sessions and Panel Discussion.
The introductory remarks were given by Dr. Ved Mitra Shukla- The Convenor of the English Literary Association. Prof. Rajesh Giri (Principal, Rajdhani College) in his presidential address addressed the audience with his kind words and wished good luck to the organising team for this event.
Guest of Honour, Prof. Anil Kumar Aneja (Department of English, University of Delhi) enlightened everyone present in the session with his valuable and thoughtful words. He also laid stress upon the distinction between Awareness and Consciousness in his speech. He added that to promote our Indian Languages, National Education Policy 2020 mainly focuses on translation. In this regard, we have to establish several translation institutions.
Keynote speaker, Prof Panchanan Mohanty gave an elaborate and extensive speech wherein he discussed the complexities involved in defining and understanding the meaning of ‘Translation’. Prof. Varsha Gupta concluded the first session with her vote of thanks.
In the next part of the webinar four parallel sessions were held wherein sixteen papers were presented by scholars of various universities. Each session consisted of well-informed and distinguished presenters and it was a mix of research scholars, freelance translators and working professors.
Panel Discussion was the last and the final section of the webinar. For this, three speakers were invited namely Dr. Umesh Kumar, Dr. Lalit Kumar and Mr. Shafiqul Alam. Dr. Umesh Kumar (Department of English, Benaras Hindu University) offered the insight that teachers can teach translation through pedagogy in the classrooms. Dr. Shafiqul Alam (Department of English, Rajdhani College, University of Delhi) recounted many of his own experiences with classroom teaching and learning related to translation.
This program with its focus on Translation helped students to understand the significance and complexities involved in Translation studies . The webinar was successful in initiating interest amongst the students towards translation and its practices.
